Multi-zone mini-split systems operate using a single outdoor unit that is connected to multiple indoor air handlers. All these indoor units rely on the same refrigerant line and compressor. As a result, the systems must operate in either cooling mode or heating mode at any given time.
Why Does Mode Conflict Occur?
Mode conflict occurs when multi-zone systems are set to operate in opposing modes simultaneously, such as cooling one room and heating another at the same time.
- If one unit is set to heat while another is set to cool, the system will not be able to fulfill both commands.
- The system prioritizes the first requested mode or may shut down conflicting unit(s) altogether.
