Cielo Smart Thermostat Eco is compatible with over 95% of HVAC systems, including gas and oil furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, air conditioners, & dual-fuel setups.
Note: Before purchasing, verify that your system is compatible with the Cielo Smart Thermostat Eco using the compatibility checker.
Once installation is complete, the Cielo Smart Thermostat Eco will automatically detect the connected wires and guide you through the setup process on the device. You can also use the Cielo Home app for a step-by-step setup experience, ensuring the HVAC system is configured correctly before use.
How to Confirm Compatibility
Step 1: Power Off the HVAC System
Before proceeding, power off the HVAC system using:
1. Master Switch OR 2. The circuit breaker
Step 2: Remove the Thermostat Cover
Go to your already installed thermostat and remove it from the wall. Most thermostats snap off the base with gentle pressure. Others may require a screwdriver. Once removed, you will see a base plate with wires connected to labeled terminals.
Step 3: Identify Wire Labels
Look for labels like R, G, Y, W, or C on the terminal connectors. These labels, not wire colors, determine compatibility.
Ignore jumper wires (short wires between Rc and Rh).
Ignore wire colors (they are not standardized). If you see two sets of labels on each connector, contact Cielo tech support.
Note:
- Sometimes, thermostats have a mid-plate that hides the connectors and wire labels. Mid-plates are screwed into the thermostat base or directly into the wall. Unscrew the mid-plate to reveal the base. Once the labels are visible, you can use them in the compatibility checker.
- If the connectors have no labels even after exposing the base, you’ll need to trace the wires back to your HVAC system’s control board to identify them. This is necessary to safely install the thermostat because the system needs to know which wire controls what function.
Special Considerations for Dual-Fuel Systems (Dual-Transformer Setups)
Cielo Smart Thermostat is supported and can be used with dual-transformer HVAC systems, but they require a different wiring and setup process than single-transformer configurations.
If you have separate RC and RH wires coming from the wall (without a jumper), you likely have dual transformers powering heating and cooling separately. In such case, refer to our guide on installing Cielo Smart Thermostat in dual transformer systems.
Systems Compatible with Cielo Smart Thermostat Eco
Cielo thermostats are designed for 24V HVAC systems.
| System Type | Compatibility |
|
Conventional (furnace & air conditioning) • Supports up to 2 stages of heating and cooling Wiring Diagram |
|
|
Heat Pumps • Support for air-to-air and geothermal heat pumps. • Supports up to 4 stages of heat (2-stage heat pump, 2-stage auxiliary heat) and 2 stages of cool. • Support dual fuel systems. |
