Cielo Smart Thermostat works seamlessly with both single-stage and multistage heating/cooling systems.
If you’re unsure which type of system you have, the simplest way to check is by looking at the wiring on your thermostat.
Single-Stage System Wiring
- Single-stage heating: One wire connected to W or W1.
- Single-stage cooling: One wire connected to Y or Y1.
- 1-stage heat pump: A single Y1 wire that manages both heating and cooling.
Multi-Stage System Wiring
Multistage systems will have more than one heating or cooling wire.
- 2-stage conventional heating system: Wires connected to W1 and W2.
- 2-stage cooling system or a heat pump: Wires connected to Y1 and Y2 terminals.
- Heat pump with auxiliary heat: Heat pumps equipped with an additional heating stage (typically used when a heat pump alone can’t keep you comfortable in freezing weather). This wire goes to W2 on the Cielo smart thermostat.
How Does Cielo Smart Thermostat Work With Different Stages?
If your system’s first stage of heating or cooling isn’t enough to reach your desired temperature within a reasonable time, Cielo Smart Thermostat automatically activates the next stage of heating or cooling. This ensures you stay comfortable without long waits.
With the Cielo Smart Thermostat, you’re in control of when that second stage kicks in and for how long it should run. You can set:
- Temperature Difference Stage 2: Set the temperature difference that triggers stage 2 (for both heating and cooling).
- Maximum Runtime Stage 1: Adjust the maximum run time for stage 1 before the thermostat moves to stage 2 (both heating and cooling).
- Maximum Runtime Heatpump to Aux: This is the maximum runtime of the heat pump before the thermostat calls for aux heat to aid the heat pump in achieving your setpoint.
- Minimum Outdoor Temperature: Define the minimum outdoor temperature at which auxiliary heat should turn on and the heat pump should turn off.
- Temperature Difference Heat Pump to Aux: This refers to the temperature difference between your set point and the indoor temperature. If the difference is greater than the value you have set, your thermostat will turn on auxiliary heating.
These settings can be customized directly on your Cielo Smart Thermostat or conveniently through the Cielo Home app, providing you with complete flexibility and control over comfort.
On the Device: Go to Menu > HVAC settings > Threshold Settings > Tap Advanced > Select your configured equipment (Furnace/ Air conditioner/ Heat pump / Auxiliary Heat) > Adjust desired settings.
On the Cielo Home App: Go to Settings > HVAC Settings > Threshold Settings > Tap Advanced > Tap your configured equipment under Equipment Thresholds > Make desired changes.
