If you’ve just installed your Cielo Smart Thermostat and notice that cooling turns on whenever you select heating, the issue is usually caused by incorrect wiring or an incorrect system configuration. Here's how you can resolve this issue:
1. Verify and Correct the Wiring
- When cooling is called, your thermostat energizes the Y1 connector. Remove the thermostat from the wall and ensure the correct wire is inserted in the Y1 terminal.
- Check your HVAC system control board or old thermostat wiring, and confirm that the wiring at your Cielo Smart Thermostat matches exactly.
1a. If You Have a Heat Pump
- Ensure the O/B wire (reversing valve) is connected to the O/B connector, not the W1 connector.
-
On many thermostats, the O/B wire may have been connected to a terminal marked W on one side and O/B on the other.
- W is used for conventional systems (furnace).
- O/B is used for heat pumps.
1b. Unsure If You Have a Heat Pump?
Check your old thermostat wiring:
- Do you see an orange wire connected to W or O/B? This is typically the reversing valve wire found in a heat pump.
- Do you see wires in W2/AUX or E connectors? These are for auxiliary heat, which is commonly present in heat pump systems.
- Generally:
- White wire → W2/AUX/E connector
-
Orange wire → O/B connector
If both are present, it’s a strong indicator that you have a heat pump system.
2. Reconfigure the Equipment
If you mistakenly configured your heat pump as a conventional system, you’ll need to reconfigure the equipment after correcting the wiring.

3. Reconfigure the O/B Reversing Valve
You will also need to change the O/B reversing valve settings once you've corrected the wiring.

📢 Important
- Most heat pump systems energize the O/B reversing valve to Cool.
